Hi, I'm Katja and I profoundly believe that you don't need to chase creativity nor do you need to force yourself to write (or do anything for that matter). You already have everything you need to be the artist you want to be. All you have to do, if you wanted to access that, is to relax into it. Relax into your creativity. Relax into being yourself. Relax into the present moment.
When it comes to writing, every writer has their own journey and your main job is not to compare your journey with someone else's bur rather to find what works for you and what doesn't. There is a reason you are intrigued by some story ideas and bored by some others. That interest, that sense of excitement, that curiosity is your TRUE NORTH. If you tap into that and follow it, you can - and you will - create magic.
I am also a huge nerd. A STORY nerd. I love analysing and discussing story structures, character arcs, and everything about the craft of storytelling. I am 100% what is in online writing communities known as a plotter. But that doesn't mean you have to be. When I work with you, I want you to find the writing process that serves you best. The emphasis is really on seeing what works for you and not on trying to fit you into some system of predetermined rules and routines.
Craft-wise, I want you to recognise story principles as tools you can use to help you craft your stories. Meaning, I want you to know that any writing principle or so-called "rule" you encounter, is not a monster that holds power over you. It is you who has the power to approach it from your own perspective. It is on you to see how this principle can help you develop the story you want to tell. And if you find that it doesn't serve you in any way, shape, or form, you are perfectly allowed to let it go.
I absolutely love solving puzzles which is probably why one of my favourite genres (to read and to write) is mystery, be it crime or any other kind. The other contestant for the position of my absolute favourite genre is comedy. So if you are writing any of the two (or hey, even a combination of both), check out my coaching services because I would love to work with you.
The other genre I enjoy working with is contemporary fiction. But actually, I like all genres. So even if you're writing anything else and you like my jam, if you like my way of thinking and believe we'd work well together, feel free to hit me up. That's the most important thing, really. At the end of the day, it's not about the genre or style. If my way of looking at things resonates with you and you like it, that's what matters the most and that's what will determine a succesfull writing relationship.
To tick off some of the more formal facts about me, I am a 30-something dramaturge from Slovenia. (See how cleverly I phrased that so I don't have to change it every year until I'm 40.) I studied Dramaturgy at the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film, and Television of the University of Ljubljana and gratuated in 2015. Over the past decade, I have worked with various theatre groups, actors, dancers, and directors with their projects and productions.
Fun fact, I have also worked as a piano teacher for 10 years. Music is absolutely another one of my big passions. There is just some universal, primal quality to it, that I don't think any other form of art does. Because it's not just auditive, I find music to be quite visceral and I perceive it deep within my body. Maybe that's why I don't reeeealy love to talk about it as much as I enjoy talking about stories. And mindset. These, my friends, are topics where I could go on and on. And on. As my friends and family have experienced on many occasions.
But other than these facts that, frankly, don't really tell you much about me - you know, it's the characterization versus character thing - I have been doing something else over the past 10, 15 years that I believe is much more important for my work right now. Different people have different names for this process. Personal growth, personal development, deconditioning, unlearning, spiritual journey, healing journey, and so many others. All of these terms describe my past 10, 15, even 20 years. It has been a turbulent time, full of ups and downs and, most importantly, lessons learned.
For now, I'll leave it at this. I'll be honest, as I was writing this text, I kind of ran out of my writing fuel. So I'll wrap it up here and add some more "about me" stuff later on. In the meantime, find me on Instagram and subscribe to my newsletter. After all, that will give you a much clearere picture of who I am and what I'm all about.
See you there!
